I initially assumed the animator may be Yoshinobu Michihata due to the similarity to his Clayface transformation but he's not listed in the episode's credits. I suppose it's a matter of different TMS animators influencing each other?

Probably. I'm not even sure if Michihata was even working for TMS/Telecom at that point.

Though I do have to ask, are you going to upload the combining sequences at some point?

He's been working with them since 1979 starting out as an inbetweener on Castle Of Cagliostro, and his first known key animation was on Lupin The Third part II.
