I was literally going to ask "Why use CGI for this movie to do 2D animation" but then I saw homeboy's right arm and i was like oh.....
Wish we could've seen more of what Disney could do with Deep Canvas before they left it behind to start aping Pixar's style.

Yeah I think those crude 3D characters are just there to help block out the composition

The 3D in that movie wasn't that bad really. Simply hand drawing/animate a Pirate ship for example would of been time consuming. I just prefer the 2D animation and how expressive the characters are during dialogue scenes.

Yeah the 3D backgrounds in this movie, Tarzan and Atlantis look cool. And it obviously makes sense to use it for Silver's arm and the annoying robot guy. I just meant the crude 3D in this clip
The CG arm blends in really well.
