GENUINELY ONE OF THE MOST INSANE PIECES OF ANIMATION IVE SEEN
Genuinely, how. Absolutely unbelievable.
no words to describe this, one of the best animated scenes of all times and for sure the best one piece cut
What the hell is even happening!?! Lmao this is incredible! Kaido's face 0:47
I can't come up with a comment to express how good this is but I need to comment now and cement this moment in history
ZHANG THE MAN YOU ARE!!!!!!!CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BATCH OF EPISODES!!!!
Man made history, unbelievable, monster.
Probably his second best cut for me god damn
What the hellllll!! Oh ma gawd!! No waaaeeaaeeaaayy!!
Seeing Weilin Zhang on Gear 5 is a dream come true. Truly one of the greatest animators of our generation.
absolutely fucking insane
immaculate. fucking immaculate.
thats crazy that's actually messed up
This is the most insane animation, both figuratively and literally
This might genuinely be top 5 of my favorite animated sequences in anything ever. Jesus.

random vedal lmao
Only complaint about this incredible scene is that the sorta brown-pink hue laid over top everything causes some issues with readability, especially when compounded by the speed at which everything is happening.
Insane. This is... this is it. This is fucking ballistic beyond belief.
Definition of insanity
this is off the rails mindblowing
Luffy covering his eyes before the explosion is just the cherry on top of this amazing scene.
Can't describe how much fun i had seeing this for the first time. Weiling Zhang, did a gorgeus, celestial, outstanding, amazing, unbelievable work here. I'm happy
i literally almost shed tears from an action scene
This is actually one of the craziest animation cuts of all time
Plot twist: Weilin's character designs for Tengoku OP with the eyeballs and mouth moving seperately from the face was just practice so that he could animate this scene.
Weilin continuing to go in this unique direction. A combo of Hashimoto esque blobular shapes, and just pushing it to its fucking max
had a stroke watching. 10/10 fucking legend
I don't even know what to say
THIS IS IT. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. LOONEY TOONS SAKUGA. I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING FOR 10 MINUTES, HELP.
Weilin started out as one of the best and only gets better he cannot be real
It's good but the Lisibility is horrible
Possibly the most insane an ridiculous piece of japanese animation I've seen, this is just unreal and historic. Also, 700 points on the booru in 2 HOURS!!??? REALLY???!!!
Weilin with another MASTERCLASS.

But Can't understand wtf is happening, reminded me of Hiroto Nagata.
Weilin Zhang literally went G5 himself while animating this because HOLY MOLY GUACAMOLE
The impossible made possible...
Weilin Zhang animated absolute pure insanity
Weilin Zhang proving once again that he's absolutely cracked
FUCKING INSANE SAKUGA
Weilin Zhang purely GOAT
I'm at a loss for words, Weilin Zhang you have enlightened me.
They animated so many unnecessary movements and I fucking love every second of it.
I'm gonna be that guy. This, I'm sorry, is impossible to understand, no matter how good the animation is. What a waste.

Yeah I couldn't tell what happened either. Did he send the fireball back at the dragon? How?

It gets pretty easy to understand after a few rewatches. Basically, he pulls the ground up and turns it all rubbery (it’s part of the power), the rubbery wall catches the blast and sends it back. That’s the simplified version ig.
I am speechless, to say the least. This dude is barely younger than I am, for Christ's sake.

Best cut of the year, no wonder it took a long while to produce. Dude is the all-time GOAT.
one of the most c r o n k e d pieces of animation I have ever seen, what the actual shit
Awards are pretty meaningless, but this guy deserves an Oscar. This is the best animation sequence I've ever seen.
oh god we don't deserve this
Very cool sequence but man is it incomprehensible at times not complaining tho love how Zhang went all-out here
Most insane thing ever
1000 in 6 hours is craaazy
One piece out here setting records again.
HOLY JESUS…….God have mercy on my eyes!!
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS INSANITY????
Weillin YOU ABSOLUTE GOD !!! WTF is this !!!
the sheer fury in the movements, all the exaggerated poses and expressions, the way everything bounces and twists, the speed, the energy, GOD this scene is definitely the most gear five animation in the entire episode
Lets be honest this is really impressive but completely unreadable
its like yutapon timing + goofy ahh movements. i dont even care if i cant see wtf is happening this is just unbelievable...
This guy is fucking GOATED !!! Like i can't describe it, but each one of his cuts are insanity. He don't miss !
HOLY FUCK….

This might be one of the most brilliant, most gut bustingly, (scarily) good pieces of animation I’ve ever laid eyes on… this is a level of big brain it hurts trying to process what I’m looking at and I love every second of it 😭😭

For my money as an animator Yutaka Nakamura was bar none the greatest, most skilled, and by FAR the most genius, innovative, creative, etc animator on the entire planet, and I foolishly thought this was a shot from him, and his greatest outing to boot. Here I was sleeping on motherfucking Weilin Zhang who is probably in my top 5 but never expected to make what might be the greatest work of animation ever…

Crazily convention defying, powerful and impactful beyond imagination, laughter-inducing to the point of tears, this pushed me to the far brink of my brain trying to fathom how a human could even come up with this... Bravo Weilin Zhang, and forgive me for underestimating you- this may well be a new peak in animation 🔥🔥🔥

Late to the party, but it truly is incredible.
The one frame where kaido's eyes are suddenly rendered with detail kills me every time
stuff was funny asf in a good way
Weilin Zhang’s work is just otherworldly...
I won't deny the insane level of talent and artistry present here, but one of the most important parts about old "Looney Tunes" animation is that it's extremely readable. I've gone through several threads and it seems like a lot of people had no idea what was happening during this scene, myself included. I mean 0:14-0:20 alone is visual nonsense. I don't think it should take several rewatches to understand what's happening in a cut, and there are plenty of examples of cuts that are insane and ridiculous but also easy to read.

Again its weird and experimental and its beautiful in that way, but imo it doesn't entirely work
HDYIDVDBXBGSBSVZVLSHVSBS AMAZING!! GOD ZHANG!! AND GOD GEAR 5!! 👀😵
the best animator for me
SOTY
(also, while I do understand why some people are finding this segment a little bit challenging to read, I think the goal here was to be expressive, rather than to be fully functional - I dare to say that this may be the main difference between western and eastern animation approaches: one focus on functionality, the other on expressiveness)
one of the greatest cuts i’ve ever seen

Go back
Again, for any curious future viewers, this cut got a score of 1566 in 24 hours, the alleged current record.

I truly understand your point, although I understand their intent in this sequel, the principle of the "looney tunes animation" they focused on above many others was exaggeration, which I can understand why thinking that way as exaggeration has always been a part of one piece vibe in general, where everything is exaggerated almost to the limits, monsters the size of islands, fights that last days, 5 meter characters that aren't even giants etc... in that I understand the intention of focusing on the exaggeration of gear 5 in this scene , everything is so fast, so strong, so distorted, in moments it seems that the camera itself is made of rubber, everything bounces left and right, luffy's body parts split and disappear in some frames and there are moments in ones, everything so absurdly “ridiculous” where in fact the clarity of the scene was sacrificed to focus more on what the audience would feel in it than what they would actually see or understand, definitely something super experimental, but I can understand the intentions behind it, and if truly the focus was on selling the idea of exaggeration on gear 5, as something absurd, surreal, ridiculous etc... , this scene definitely achieved its objective, even with the sacrifices of clarity
Naruto vs Pain died so that this could live.

But both lf the fights are really well done.

Both are fantastic fights with amazing animation.
However, one is very well directed and easy to follow with proper camera work while at the same time being hated by its fanbase as the worst thing to happen to the series for years to come, while the other is hailed as a masterpiece while being extremely hard to follow.

In retrospect, Naruto vs Pain was at least 8 years ahead of its time with that animation style.
I really hate how modern animation has to make things so incomprehensible with so much unnecessary spastic movement and voient camera shaking.

I think the contrast is due in part because of the direction both fights took. Naruto fights focused more on the less grandiose aspects and more on the technical aspects that the fans were used to before Naruto vs Pain happened. Naruto vs Pain was the complete opposite of what fans were expecting. It was more wild, bombastic and experimental which was probably real confusing for any Naruto fans at the time. I, personally, loved the fight and the hate for it was insane but I could where the fans were coming from (as dumb as it was). This One Piece cut makes sense. It contributes to the crazy, wacky energy from Gear 5 Luffy that One Piece fans were expecting (plus it's from Weilin Zhang). I would say the clarity is questionable if you didn't read the manga, beforehand.
you people are making it so hard for me to like this great sequence
Love how this has turned into a meaningless argument, enjoy the artistry at work, it is not life or death.

Exactly how I feel, amazingly put
this comment session is insufferable. This is art. No questions.

Disagree, this absolutely has barely any readability, have the boars being responsible for this or what, but you cannot literally blatantly say it isn't and ignore how convoluted everything literally is. The scene was really impressive, but incredibly incohesive.
