Mix of TV and BD version for this post.

The first cut got a layer correction on the Blu-ray version, the impact of the beam FX was missplaced on the TV version, actually hidding some of Nagata's drawings (you can check frame 24).
Rest of this sequence is the TV version since the Blu-ray make it harder to appreciate the 2D effects, especially the last 2 cuts.
The second half of the Blu-ray version added too strong photographic processing...

The processing just makes it harder to see the 2D animation itself, it's not a matter of whether or not it's "worse"
