He had commented in a tweet that it was inspired by Yutapon, but I didn't think so... seeing here it looks like (0:17>19), the final version has a rock in the lower left corner by? and blur in the explosion. Questionable decisions here (by the ED).

I mean it's clearly not just an explosion, the beam is still going and the blur is there to emulate the heat. I thought it was obvious.

Really? I thought what the director did with this cut was fantastic, the compositing of the effects and blurring really helped give it a cinematic look imo.
