I remember laughing at the 28 second mark when that happened, it got me good
Nakamura still breaking the insane speed of light

Edit: That cut of Deku punching air is so funny imo
isn't 0:41 - 0:43 2D background animation? Or it's just Nakamura's effects on top of a 3D background?
where did the other comments go
Yutapon slow motion hits different. I don't know what it is about it, it's just so mesmerising to look at. Probably one of my favourite aspects of his style.

Well 0:43 is for sure 3d but the rest is pretty hard to tell

Probably an effect cel on top of a 3d background
0:28 - 0:31

It went to another dimension
Interesting, they changed some things from the theatrical version.

Like what? I didn't see it in theaters, I'm curious about the changes

I guess it's the consistency, quality of drawing, the amazing anatomy and the crazy shading and the overall coolness of the effects added around it .

Some changes I noticed:

0:13 Impact frames were added. The theatrical version just had the close-up shot of Deku's back.
0:17 the multiple fists now have darker strokes
0:20 Deku's arm is now blue instead of dark purple.
0:25 added effects
0:28 The Deku "clones" are now green.
0:31 Green flare added. The theatrical version just had the blue lines.
0:41 Color changed to yellow and blue. Originally just blue.
Oh hey this actually loops quite nicely.
Also I can't believe Deku did LSD to defeat this villain on top of commiting mass-murder earlier
reminds me of his work on concrete revolutio
Wake up, new Yutapon dropped

For a final fight that is meant to be serious I think I would not be able to stop being a mix of confused and laughing

Well, most of Yutapon's works after Concrete Revolutio look pretty similar
Yutapon using CGI background? Wot? While anything from him is appreciated, the thing I love the most about his scenes are the incredible background animation. I guess he's just experimenting here because it's a movie; there's even CGI yutapon cubes here lol. The cell-shaded background at 0:41 is pretty sick though.
I'm pretty sure he had another 10 seconds of animation after the ending shot of deku.

The entire is 2d. 0:43 is not 3d at all. Just a flat background being warped and distorted in the composite.

are you sure about that ? the background definitely looks cgi to me

Dude there is a 3d background tag right there.
Gotta say, this is def some of nakamuras weakest work. direction wise. the art, movement, and everything else he normally does is just as good as usual, but this feels more like a light show than an actual fight. which is weird, since he's kind of known for seamlessly integrating the lightshow portion of what he makes into the actual fight. but here it doesn't feel like anything more than that. i just hope he doesn't hold true to this on later cuts
My nitpicks: Too much going on with the light effects and I don’t care for the cg. The shot where Deku is swinging in place is kind of weak as well. Otherwise it goes without saying it’s still a dope cut from Lord Nakamura.

Yutaka Nakamura isn't to blame. It is a consequence of MHA fight sequences: they have almost no creativity/choreography and are carried by flashy effects.
Honestly this. I adore Nakamura but I feel sometimes his skills are wasted on a series with such uninteresting fights as MHA.
Most of the time Nakamura boards/creates his own scenes from scratch, something as absurd as this is probably something only Nakamura could think of. So yeah it is a Yutapon problem sometimes, not a generalized MHA problem.

Agreed that this is some of the weakest work we've seen from him, but my only issue is the cgi. If all the cgi were replaced with proper Yutapon background animation, then I would consider this a solid scene
Do we know if it was Yutapon's decision to have so much of this scene done with CGI? Or is that up to someone else

It was probably up to the animation and/or composite director more than likely.
I honestly appreciate the fact that Nakamura didn’t just do the punches in one continuous movement the punches are going up down left and right.
