I didn't know I needed this
This is ridiculously incredible...
For the readers: Go watch the full opening, is 1 minute and 30s of pure high quality sakuga
Very entertaining from start to finish, the secondary motion control is elevated to the max, favourite scene for sure is that Tohru gingado. Wonderfull!!!
There is a creditless version of this and the ED in their channel

The quality is really poor, so it was decided to wait for the Blu-ray NCs.

Yes, the creditless one has a lot of compression artifacts, at this moment the best choice is the bilibili one, they stream it in native 4k
which is just an upscale, not native 4k. KyoAni tv productions are still native 1080p

no, not all kyoani shows are produced at native 1080p. majority of them are created at 900p. some are at 810p or 720p. a few are created at 1080p. these are what I know.

violet evergarden, a silent voice, free s3 are produced at 1080p.

dragon maid s1, hibike euphonium, musaigen no phantom world, amagi brilliant park, tamako market, tamako love story, beyond the horizon, hyouka, free s1 and s2, chuunibyou are produced at 900p.

k-on, haruhi suzumiya (melancholy and disappearance both), nichijou are produced at 720p.

eh, the statement was "kyoani tv productions are still native 1080p". unless mentioned anything else, it does seem like including just as everything kyoani makes.

based on the context it was pretty clear to me they weren't talking about shows from over a decade ago but idk
i probably could have been more clear, but yeah, i wasn't referring to literally every single one of their shows since there was a time they switched over to 1080.

and besides, this is wrong anyway. we have known for a while they have shifted to producing their projects at 1080p a while ago: https://ultimatemegax.wordpress.com/2015/04/24/photography-and-resolution-of-anime/
oh I wasn't aware of this article. but now that makes me curious, does kyoani only add that special blurring effect on line-arts on the story part only and not op/ed? even though anibin noted down 955p for those shows, it still correctly said that their op/ed are 1080p.

and for cases like violet evergarden, violet had tremendous amount of line-arts, but its getnative graph doesn't show any dip around 900p like the others, and its FFT image is clean too. it can be clearly said that violet was produced at 1080p. did kyoani not use that blurring effect here either?

EDIT: one more thing I forgot to mention. the article mentions this line:

>the method from Anibin, which takes the line art and runs it through a program to measure the depth of the line

what did they mean by measuring depth of the line?

not entirely sure, it might have been mentioned somewhere in one of the many interviews with one of their directors of photography, but it would make sense the blur filter used on the lineart is slightly different between the OP/ED and the actual episode. it wouldn't be the same one used for tamaket though, since it would differ between productions and staff (DoP). violet used one as well (they all do for the sake of harmony). sources and tools like anibin and getnative's algorithm is obviously just thrown off by the line filters used on most of their shows. either way though, it's a fact that they have been working in 1080p for a long time as it's been confirmed from many of their BD bonus specials.

I just finished season 1 and I saw this opening. Stopped watching instantly to come and favorite this dammit. Seriously, been looking at it for 10 minutes now trying to understand WHY IT IS SO GOOD? Are they moving in sync? I have looked only at Tohru for now but its still so. Damn. Incredible?
This is couple months old but I do feel the need to point out that seeing "1920x1080" in the making ofs isn't in an of itself a proof of anything, it's the resolution of the filter comp which would be after any scaling is done..

Even for Violet the fix size for scanning was ~2056x1160 which only nets you "1080p" with smaller then the usual 10% margins so I'd say it's not far fetched for the previous productions to be less than that for various reasons.
Anibin's methodology isn't flawless but still is fairly sound so I wouldn't go and assume it's thrown off by "blur filters" especially considering they're for all intents and purposes just more elaborate variations of the DF that every anime ever uses.
yeah, it is true that the composited res and what the materials were scanned at are two completely different things, so that was misleading on my part...

and as for anibin, i suppose so but it feels pointless when others use it as a reliable source due to inaccuracies it could have with some line filters plus the fact they use broadcast masters anyway
