Genuinely can't express how happy I am that they actually didn't use CG for colossal transformation both times so far, it wouldn't have bothered me if they did but it really speaks commitment that they didn't, especially looking at the hellish production they are going through, even with that still being able to deliver surprises in this episode.
While I appreciate the colossal being in 2D,it makes sense, same with the female,Marcel's Jaw and now both colossal Titans. Why make a 3D model for them when they only appear once? Although I am reminded of a 3D colossal in the preview

Yeah making a full 3d model for 15 second or so screentime wouldn't be the most efficient. Also the cg colossal titan in the PV looked like it was a reused model from previous seasons as that model didn't have the ribcage sticking out like armin's titan has.

True (at least if them only adapting to chapter 122 is true.), but still, those scenes are a lot more difficult to achieve, and for the schedule's sake making a new 3D model or reusing the older one would have been a lot less time consuming, and not completely useless as they will perhaps need one or a few anyway for the sequel to this season...
