I don't think I've ever seen Tomita draw/animate anything without his glazey highlights before.
Tomita slowly getting bacc on the tracc. I feel guilty cause I didn't recognize his work at first when watching it. It surely seems different without all those shadows and highlights. Still his timing was kinda obvious when you watch it twice.
damn Tomita is back huh, excited to see more of him
All the cuts of the mob are animated by Tomita and the cuts of Zoro and Kawamatsu and their combo attack are animated by Nireki as far as the first 18 seconds goes

The remainder of the scene is Tomita
Tomita's back! (at least for this episode). Nireki's cuts are just amazing.
I've been thinking a lot about the role of AD and CAD and this case of Tomita being corrected so much reminded me of that. Im really wondering if its productive to correct very idiosyncratic animators like Tomita or Shida. Whether or not design consistency in an episode should be an absolute rule. Wano is clearly aiming for consistency and has done a really good job at that which i acknowledge and respect but its cases like this that make me raise an eyebrow. I dont know the right answer but i think raising these questions is important

Well, I believe this is one of the first times we had VERY strong corrections for an idiosyncratic animator in Wano. Shida's cuts were not corrected at all even Bahi had almost no corrections and many other animators....u r kind of generalizing based on the scene alone...Also, Matsuda will never leave alone a Zoro shot in Wano without correcting it lol

This is also assuming that Tomita hasn't changed his style to be less heavy on shading when based off the preview for next episode, he surely has. It's not really that big a deal and is just Matsuda doing her job. Plus his timing is still in full force, so there isn't an issue really.

Yeah i thought about that later but i dont know if i agree with it being a case of him adjusting his style. In the preview his basic shapes, textures, folds etc are very recognizable. In this case, in the later parts, only the timing is there but not completely (when Gyuki runs away for example).

I think you're cherry picking instances of Tomita's style rather than seeing the bigger picture, the timing was absolutely him still. Matsuda may have corrected him, but his style has become different regardless and I think you're way overthinking him being "erased" or whatnot.

I get what you say. Still I would find it at least curious if Tomita's shadows that were as strong as never in Whole Cake changed all of the sudden from one arc to another and he decided not to draw them anymore. I remember Katakuri's face being 80% shadow a year ago, so I think it may even be related to him understanding what the approach of Wano is and adapting to it according to Matsuda's guidelines. If not, then he's just getting heavily corrected!
