A shame it still looks bad
what a god shota goshozono
This is insanely good, contrary to what a good few people think.

What I don't get is that they removed the Ladros dodging Asta's sword at the end, which is present in the TV version and in Goshozono's genga. Why? Now Ladros' line from that part (which is still present) doesn't make much sense.
It is actually a shame with this one as be honest, that CGI is awful. It must be due to less time and rushed work but goddam it I can't come to like this cut even though the KA must have tried so hard.

Without even regarding whether this episode had severe production issues (which I have no knowledge about), I personally doubt the specific component that you are talking about would've changed greatly. Goshozono does his own 3d backgrounds as part of his workflow, and this was one of the few earlier works of his that heavily utilized self-done cgi, so I'd say that the "jankiness" is just a result of experimenting during this time.
