As a kid this part always amazed me with the animated background arrow scenes. What makes them even cooler to me now since I'm older is that I'm just now realizing that it's not just animated, it's also painted. Really fucking cool. I wonder how long this took to get right.

They talk about this in the もののけ姫はこうして生まれた NHK documentary series.
I know there existed a (partially) subtitled version of this somewhere, but you can still buy the documentary. It's a really inspiring watch, highly recommend it.
