This movie had a LOT of objects seen refracted through a transparent material, like water or glass (like Jiro's glasses here). I think that's a really cool motif.
The attention to detail in this scene is great. And it's the little things. For instance, how Jiro pulls his chair closer to his desk.
I love how the weight of the chair are shown when jiro pull his chair
I feel like I'm the only user on this website that prefers Ohira's work when it's clean. Don't get me wrong, he's still of the most technically impressive animators to ever walk the Earth, but I just don't care for the squiggly line art and the kind of ugly faces in most of his uncleaned work.
do you suggest that good artist = clean image? or maybe i musunderstood you?

Ohira scenes are impressive but to understand it you need to see it with a contest. Ohira is expressionist his work is more about emphasize the emotion of the scenes in abstract surreal way.

and of course enjoying his works is a personal preference and nothing wrong with it.
God this scene is amazing. If Miyazaki is actually able to finish his upcoming film, I hope we get to see Ohira flex his muscles like this again.
