This was some really lovely rotoscoping. Definitely one of the scenes from the film that stood out most to me.

Oh thanks,but when i first watched this scene i was like,"that looks like okiura".i feel down now
As far as I know, Shinkai said that the scene used a technique *close to* rotoscoping, so I'm removing the tag for now even though it's strongly referencing the real footage performed by Kazutaro Nakamura. Hashimoto animated the fire by the way, if that's not obvious.
