Would people say that this is better or worse animated than it's anime counter-part. I'm going to say slightly worse, though I think the direction was stronger.

I'd agree with you on this. The animation is a touch better in certain moments, but it doesn't have the same impact of the TV version.

In the anime version there was a nice moment of suspense when the attacks collided, I feel like that would have been nice here
