animated bahi_jd character_acting genga ping_pong production_materials

Edit | Respond

So this post and

https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/29564

were (apparently) not used in the final product, apparently not all of Bahi JD's roughs were used in the final episode due to tight scheduling, but I personally thought they were still impressive so I put them here. If the mods don't think it should be under the "ping_pong" tag then I guess just remove the tag.
Ive been wondering this, why do animators number their frames? Is there any purpose for that?

It's useful for keeping track on the x-sheets (this is similiar to a timeline, but with more info. google it), so that the inbetweener knows which keyframes are which, or if they go out of order it's easy to get back in order.

In this case, Bahi put a circle around keyframes, and a triangle around breakdowns (full limited animation). Since Bahi animated digital and did it all by himself, there was really no point in numbering the frames here, nor adding the symbols for keys/BDs, but it's a nice practise to do it anyways.

Now I understand what are those symbols for. Thank you!

EDIT: Im sorry if this was understood the wrong way. I meant if this was a private animation, or a solo project, where you have control on all the animations and the entire project is digital.

It's important to write a number/symbol on your animation because of the x-sheet and the different people down the pipeline (sakkan, inbetween, color, composition) needs to be able to order your drawings after the x-sheet. You animation would be printed out and to keep it in order, the animation has to have the same numbers and symbols as the x-sheet. It was wrong of me to say that "Bahi didnt need to add them" because this was done for the Ping Pong production.

No, since the cuts did not get put into the anime, it slipped my mind that IF it had gotten in, there would be people who needed to see the frame numbering.

I've never heard anything about Iso animating straight ahead, nor Bahi. You have a certain importance of keyframes: storytelling keys being the most important, and then the keys that shows the most important parts of movement, and you can go on from there.

He's probably talking about the fact that Iso does his cuts without the help of 2nd KA or inbetweeners. Bahi does that too sometimes but with production like Kabaneri, it's nearly impossible.

Not exactly, but close. Straight ahead means no keyframes. Just going straight ahead from drawing the first frame to the second to the third, etc.
