Just an absolutely monumental and monstrous work. It will live, inspire and be loved for decades still
This is easily the best I've ever seen, Mitsuo Iso shows masterful handling of movement. Rarely have I seen in the animation the mechas having weight and inertia according to their size, seeing them struggling to make a movement or not to fall is incredible.
Details like the air being cut off when it comes into contact with the Eva or by the Longinus spears are great.
Not to mention the camera work, with the low shots to strengthen the illusion of large size, anticipation of movements and impact.

It's a shame that Iso has never shared the secrets of Full Limited with anyone or that the technique is so complex that animators like Toshiyuki Inoue are unable to imitate it.
As I think someone said in an earlier post of this sequence, that depth of field shot at 0:36 is really really dope. For me though, the following two cuts might be my favorite of all time.
Absolutely legendary. Unreachable.
This will forever be one of my favorite animated sequences ever. Iso is such a master at realistic movement.
The 3rd cut is, quite possibly, my favourite cut of all time.
That sense of power, danger, gravity, weigh, everything - along with the spectacular cinematography - is beyond of what we normally see in animation (and I may even dare to say, in action cinema).
This whole sequence alone was the main responsible to start my curiosity about 2D animation - and consequently, Sakuga
after retweeting this scene

I thought it was worth mentioning

Funny enough I think the fourth and last rebuild movie paid homage to this shot by referencing the roll eva 02 does to escape the mp that comes from above 0:22-0:24, in the rebuild movie this happens when cannibalized 02 is battling the 01 arms in the old nerv base
The monumental weight of giants. The inertia of blades the size of a building. Masterpiece.

From what Inoue and Kitakubo has said (mostly Inoue), Iso's really good at visualizing his scenes, as well as planning them out. He's perfectly aware of how he spends the frame-count, and knows that the best way he could express his ideal motion is when most, if not all, of the frames were his (including using the straight-ahead technique).
This sequence will forever stay as one of the most impressive piece of animation ever made. UNREAL
legendary job of Iso Mitso. mindblowing movement.
this is why I started animating
imagine dropping this and then continuing to live the rest of your life like your just a normal human
Tbh I don’t think there is a single cut that handles weight better than this
