are there reasons to believe he didn't draw the foreground?

It doesnt look like his animation especially compared to the other scene he did, also considering he only did 1 cut here it feels like a situation where he was only asked to do the morphing but I could be wrong

Also I've spoken to friends of Watanabe's often enough and I think they're okay with it :)

that would be quite the strange exception. It looks like Watanabe's work too, but I could be wrong all the same.
no real evidence to say otherwise though.

lol I'm not sure what your problem is but you realize its not even a nickname right? just a shortened version because 1 = ichi, same way we say O14 for Oishi

I think he still drew the guy in the foreground, the way the hands and cloth is drawn seems quite similar to his other works kinda? especially the hands
